<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I’ve been delinquent again on my blogging and we’ve had a
bunch of show and tells so I need to get busy. Yesterday we had a good crowd.
Jo Anne, our Halloween fairy delivered some Halloween treats to us and to the
library staff. She is a super gift giver.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Christa had an outstanding show and tell. A beautiful 2 sided red, black
and gray quilt. She is a fantastic quilter. Her work is always technically and
artistically amazing. I realize now that I didn’t take a picture of Betty with
her finished neck piece. She was very pleased with it and plans to make more.
She is getting ready to head South again where she won’t need heavy coats,
boots, etc. This little scarf will be just enough. Elaine is ready for the last
step of her Christmas placemats. She just needs to sew the opening closed and
sew around the edge. They should be ready to use this year. Winnie is disturbed
because this is the first year ever she thinks she won’t bother voting. She
takes this responsibility very seriously but doesn’t like either choice. I have
the feeling she’s not the only one in the country with this dilemma. </span><span style="font-family: "calibri";"> </span><br />

Tina was back from her summer up north. Kathy O. probably won't be back for awhile yet. But pretty soon our snowbirds will start flying south. Every season brings changes. I haven't kept up with the blog as usual. Last week was exciting--Ryan's Case for Smiles joined us and hosted a pillowcase event. They brought fabric, we had sewing machines, ironing boards, and cutting mats ready and we finished 30 pillowcases! These pillowcases will be given to sick kids at AMC, Ronald McDonald house and many other places. It was a lot of fun so we are going to do it again in March. Then last weekend was the library book sale. 9 of us brought items to sell. Even though it seemed quite slow most of the time, we earned about $800 total. The Friends of the Library get 10% of our sales so we all came out ahead. We ended up with $29 not accounted for so we decided that I should use that money to buy a backing for our next raffle quilt. I'll start looking at some sale fabric to see what I can find. We had our display set up Friday afternoon and all day Saturday but decided to skip Sunday. We were all tired and it was supposed to rain anyway. We did pretty well even if we did skip Sunday. <br />

Today at Nimblefingers we had some great show and share. Pat L. is almost finished with her walrus quilt (Wally) that she is making for her grandson. He drew a picture for her of what he wanted and she has done a great job of recreating it. He wanted it to have his favorite things on it: a walrus and donuts. What a kid! It's a really cute quilt. I don't know if she'll have it for our show or not. She'll probably give it to him for Christmas though.</div>

Darlene brought in her top of her round robin quilt she did with her cousins. She made the center garden block and the picket fence border, the other borders were done by her cousins. It's really cute too. I love the phases of the moons in the corners. Then Jean brought in her finished Christmas wall hanging. So even though we spent much of the day discussing the money from the sale we had a special show and share. </div>

I forgot to take my camera so I have no pictures though we did have quilts shown that I could have taken a picture of. Darlene had whipped up a pretty little quilt out of some of the fabrics that Jo Anne had brought in. The bright colors made it a happy quilt. She's giving it to Rose who really liked it and wasn't able to come to Nimblefingers on the days that Jo Anne gave away fabric. Diane finished making the little Benartex pack that I had given her. With the collection of 5" squares it made a pretty little wall hanging. Again, very colorful. I finished sewing the binding on a quilt which I am giving to the Friends of the Library to sell in a silent auction. Joyce was sewing the binding on her red, white and blue quilt. Elaine was back from her vacation to Montana. She had lots of tales to tell. Several of the knitters are working on turquoise scarves. That is such a beautiful color that it's hard to decide which is prettiest. Pat L. suggested that we need a new address list. Pat H. suggested we have a time when people can share tips, tricks, ideas for their craft. I'll work on that idea because I think we all could learn these little things from each other. We will be meeting next week, the day after labor day.<br />

We had a big crowd--about 19 ladies. Joyce brought in her finished red, white and blue quilt. She purchased the fabric at the Joyful Quilter when the Village Quilters helped on the Quilted in Honor show. The pattern was on the Quilted in Honor website. Her daughter-in-law did the quilting on her long arm.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This week Diane brought in her turkey table runner and quilt but the batteries in my camera were dead so I couldn't take a picture. Maybe I'll see if she could bring them again next week. Today we only had 14 people. It seemed small in comparison. Linda came in towards the end. We haven't seen her for awhile since she's been feeding the Knox seniors. She's going to start doing some string art and macrame so she says we'll have some variety in the 2017 Feb. quilt show. That's nice. I like variety. So today I was sewing the binding on a lap quilt I'm hoping the the Friends of the library will raffle off. Diane was making yo-yo's which she hopes to turn into a table runner. Another bit of variety for our show. Rose was working on a round robin quilt. She and 3 of her cousins, all quilters and one of whom is Darlene, are doing this round robin. The one Rose was working on was really nice (where's my camera when I need it!) She and Darlene showed me pictures of the other beginning blocks in the round robin. They made some very decorative blocks. They should all end up with beautiful quilts. Pat L. says we should do a round robin too. I'll have to start thinking about that and figure out how to time it. Rose told me a nice story about her cousins. Rose lived in Schenectady before moving to Albany. She belonged to Q.U.I.L.T.S. So did her cousin Darlene. At one meeting Rose heard a voice that sounded familiar. She followed it and it turned out to be Darlene who she hadn't seen for a long time. They got together occasionally after that but now, with Nimblefingers, they see each other every week. I think that's a great story and I'm so glad that Nimblefingers can play a part in bringing them together. Family is so important. And when you share a common interest like quilting it's wonderful to be able to do it together. They both regret not getting together sooner with their other quilting cousins to share their love. Since my family is all on the other side of the Mississippi River I'm always envious of those who have family right here or nearby. So, for those of you with family nearby, see them often. Enjoy being together. Share your interests, feelings, thoughts, etc. Life is fleeting so take advantage of the time you have.</div>

Jo Anne has had a professional organizer help her get her sewing room in shape so today she brought in 2 big bags full of fabric. It was mostly kid oriented so we pulled out all of the 1/2 yard and larger pieces and put them aside for the pillowcase people, Ryan's case for smiles. They will be coming to Nimblefingers on Sept. 13th so we will give them the fabric then. Jo Anne can probably get a tax deduction if she asks. The picture is after the rush. I should have taken a before and after picture. Oh well. We also had lots of food today--a real spread. <br />

I brought in my latest to sew on the binding. It's a paper piecting pattern by Jennifer Sampou called Elephant and I. I bought it on the shop hop last year. It seemed like something a little different for me and I liked it. I started the paper piecting at one of our sew days. I kind of like it but now I'm out of pinks. Gonna have to buy some more.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today we had about 17 ladies--some came quite late but we ended up with a good sized group. Pat OR brought in the Sunbonnet Sue quilt made by her ladies at her apartment complex. Jo-Anne's partner, Terry, won it! She only buys raffle tickets in his name because he is always lucky--she's not. He won another quilt at a dinner one time, a big queen sized quilt! He is very lucky! Jo-Anne was pleased. She's planning on keeping it for herself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had lots of good food today. Two kinds of brownies, cookies, and lemon bars. Yum!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tara from Amelia's Garden had given me a bunch of patterns that she no longer wanted so I brought those in as giveaways. And I'm trying to get rid of some magazines so brought those in. Unfortunately, I ended up taking a lot back home with me. I will probably take them for the Delmar guild's mini-mart in September if I can't get rid of them before then.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today Pat and Fran were working on wool pieces. Christa was knitting a beautiful purple scarf, Ethel brought in her finished purple bag (I thought Winnie might walk home with it since she loves purple) and a block that will be made into a pillow for her granddaughter. Darlene was sewing the binding on a service quilt. Betty brought in a finished quilt for Albany med plus a couple of giveaways. On was a wooden tool. No one knew what it was until Ethel suggested that it was for darning holes in the fingers of gloves. Rosalind took it home to add to her collection of darning eggs. Rose was still making fancy dresses for her Victorian lady applique blocks. Jean brought in a crazy fan block. She started making this quilt in 2000. A UFO whose time had finally come.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We decided that we would once again sell items at the library book sale in September.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lots of fun today. </div>

Pat L. delighted us all with a preview of her walrus quilt which she is making from a drawing done by her grandson. His 2 favorite things in the world are walruses and donuts so this quilt will have both on it. She's working on the walrus now and start looking for some donut fabric in the meantime. It's going to be really cute. I didn't take a picture. Maybe next time she brings it in. Joyce was sewing the binding on the quilt which she and I made in the Iron Quilt challenge. It will be displayed at the Village Quilters quilt show in a couple of weeks. I was sewing sleeves on a couple of my quilts that will be in the show. Jo-Anne is still plugging away at her turquoise scarf. Jean is making a reverse applique schoolhouse block. It will be fantastic when she puts the whole quilt together. Can't wait to see it. I really need to get down to the other end of the table because I don't see what people at that end are working on. Today I was concerned with getting these sleeves on though. After Nimblefingers a local man, John Davis came in and talked to us about his quilt which is a crazy quilt made by his great grandmother. It is from the 1890s, has phenomenal work and is still in good shape. He invited us to come over to see it.<br />

<br />
It was amazing. The colors are vibrant, the embroidery is exquisite. There are 4 large fans in the corner and many small fans throughout the quilt.<br />

There was some ribbon embroidery and some of the thread was a chenille. <br />

The photos don't do it justice. Especially my camer which can't focus correctly. But the stitching was truly accomplished. His sons house was also very interesting. It was an old farmhouse which they have fixed up. It was very nice. And Mr. Davis' granddaughter had made some truly delicious mint brownies for us which we ate with iced tea on their very comfortable porch. It made for a really nice visit and we appreciate Mr. Davis' willingness to share his quilt and his sons home with us.<br />

It shamed me into sitting down and just doing it. I need a kick in the pants quite often these day. We have a bunch of new pictures to show since I haven't written for awhile. The first is Darlene's darling (sorry, I couldn't resist) needlepoint of our very own Nipper. Sue, Betty and Rosalind are in the background.<br />

This is Fran's birthday present for her husband. (Sorry, I don't know how to turn the picture right side up).<br />

<br />
The is the front of a 2-sided service quilt that I made. The Delmar guild makes lots of service quilts. They had all of these plaid fabrics cut into 10" squares. I like plaid quilts so I took them and sewed them together. I love the plus sign pattern and it is one I could make without having to do any cutting. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_7NPys1G0c0mlIuLrB0PndMRzipAwaFEFwBMpN9E2857d7eXSTvzXo89WASwVw7GyfKiXHrmDWyMTjeZ4lO44mxfrcVS_yLipi95qC0uXep4dZ0JH5NR2tCB53_RwGiyt7EFFAA/s1600/JULIE+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_7NPys1G0c0mlIuLrB0PndMRzipAwaFEFwBMpN9E2857d7eXSTvzXo89WASwVw7GyfKiXHrmDWyMTjeZ4lO44mxfrcVS_yLipi95qC0uXep4dZ0JH5NR2tCB53_RwGiyt7EFFAA/s400/JULIE+3.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the back of the quilt. Again, I didn't have to do any cutting. I still had a bunch of plaid squares leftover. Then I did a silly thing--I told the service person that I would take the whole box of plaid fabric that the guild was trying to give away. I think I spoke without thinking. She was overjoyed (they are desparate to get rid of all of their fabric) and in spite of having broken her shoulder in 4 places, she had someone deliver a box full of plaid fabric to me. I added it to my already almost impassible sewing room saying to myself: "what was I thinking!?" <br />

And finally, Pat OR taught some of the ladies at her apartment complex to sew. They wanted to learn to quilt so she taught them to applique the sunbonnet Sue and overall Sam blocks. They raffled off the quilt when finished. I need to ask her who won. Pat and her ladies both did a great job. Isn't it cute! I'll try to keep up with the blog better so we don't have so many pictures at once. </div>

We've been busy making prayer quilts. One for Winnie, Cathy M., Cathy Y. and Marguerite. I've told my ladies now..."No one else can get sick!" I hope they take my advice. I have 2 pictures with us tying the quilts. Three pictures of the finished quilts. Then I took a picture of Cathy M. with her quilt when Pat OR and I delivered it to her. The last picture is the one we delivered to Winnie. Marguerite's quilt is getting the finishing touches (binding) right now but I hope to give it to her next Tuesday. Her quilt is different: it's not purple (Winnie's favorite color). We made hers from the block that Kathy O. taught us at our open house last February. <br />

Here are some more pictures. The first is two of our new Nimblefingers members with some visitors to the quilt show in the background. The next is Marian and Rose with a table runner. The third is Pat OR's wool table runner (with my feet). Last week we were very busy. I brought my Accuquilt Go to the meeting so Agnes, me and Jeanne K. cut fabrics for the prayer quilts we will make. We passed out pre-cut pieces to everyone. Yesterday they all brought in their finished blocks. We have enough for the 3 quilts I wanted to make, for Winnie, Cathy M. and Cathy Y., but I think we should also make one for Marguerite so we might work on that one Saturday at the National Quilting day program. We will be getting together then to teach how to make a quilt, or in this case, a simple placemat. I'm not expecting a crowd of beginner quilters, so I think we'll have plenty of time to work on our prayer quilts. I have also scheduled some retreats. The only one that is on the library calendar at the moment is on Saturday, March 26th. So Nimblefingers will have that whole day to meet, sew and have lots of fun. I also wanted to schedule a day in April and May so I'll check on those. The library is only open on Saturday mornings in June through August so no retreats during the summer. <br />

17 ladies attended yesterday. It was quilt show takedown day. It's always amazing how quickly the show comes down compared to how long it takes to go up. We also counted up the votes on our table runner challenge. Winnie was the big winner with 13 votes. Congratulations Winnie! Her blue and white table runner was indeed beautiful. </div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
I thought over the weekend that we have currently got several members who have been sick lately so I thought we should make some prayer quilts. I planned some at home, told the ladies my plans and passed out some fabric triangles for them to use in making 6" squares for a charm quilt. I will bring in my Accuquilt Go! next week to cut fabric for those who would prefer to use a precut than cutting the triangle themselves. I have another plan for a 3rd quilt which I will bring in next Tuesday as well. We haven't made a group quilt in awhile so I'm hoping that we can get these made in a relatively short time.</div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
Nimblefingers and the Village Quilters alternate making a raffle quilt for the Friends of the Library. We made the last raffle quilt which went at our Open House for our show. The Village Quilters will make a raffle quilt for 2017. That means that we have 2 years to make another raffle quilt. I will start planning one soon so that we can get started with the piecing. </div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
Last week Jeanne Knouse and I did our Save our Stories interview here at the library. This is a project of Quilt Alliance which hopes to document, preserve and share the stories of quilts. We took pictures of our quilt which we made together then sat down with librarian Michelle Reilly who asked us questions about our quilt and our quilting experiences. It was an interesting procedure. I am eager to listen to the interview once they get it posted. The interview should be available as both a written and an audio document. If you are interested in doing an interview, just let Michele know. Check out <a href="http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/qsos/">http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/qsos/</a> to see examples of quilt stories.</div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
Another project on my to do list is the program at the library for National Quilting Day, March 19. I hope that this week I can come up with a list of jobs which members can sign up for so that they have some idea of what they will be doing. </div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
Clearly we have a lot going on now. Plus we need to pick out a new table runner pattern for next year! So little time, so many projects!</div>

One was a visitor. We also had a group from Schenectady come in to see our show. They meet every Tuesday afternoon too and they thought we should get together for a joint meeting sometime. I gave one of them my email address so maybe we'll try that. Jo-Anne pulled out her turquoise scarf to work on. One of these days I think she might actually finish it! She and Diane went to a quilt show in Cooperstown last week and also visited a quilt shop. She brought in her purchases to show us and had a picture she took at the show of Diane standing in front of a Baltimore album quilt with yo-yo's in every block. It must have been a spectacular quilt. Marguerite came in late. Everyone was happy to see her. We have been worried about her since her diagnosis of breast cancer. But she is doing fine now and feels much better. Agnes told us Winnie is in the hospital, St. Peter's, with diabetic neuropathy. They are looking for a rehab place to put her now. Hopefully she'll be back with us soon. I brought in a finished end-of-bed quilt for Albany med to give to Marguerite. I am sewing the binding on another one that should be ready next week.</div>

Last week we held our open house for our quilt and craft show. It was very well attended and we all had a good time. We did the bed turning thing again. People seem to like that little show because they actually hear something about the quilts and we all like stories. Tina's son Joe came in a took some pictures. I'm hoping he shares them with us. The food we had was particularly great. I know the library staff loved it! </div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
This week we had a small group again, about 9 of us. The weather was icky. We had a nice time anyway though. Since it's school break week Diane got to join us again. </div>

Here are some pictures from the quilt show. Fran has been very productive this year--2 big quilts! Her husband says he lives in a quilt factory and I think I believe him! I'll put in more pictures in other blogs.</div>

We were very happy to have Tina back after her knee surgery. We also had 2 ladies who left for the summer and hadn't been back since. We're glad they're back. And our old friends Linda and Pat L. came down from the hills to join us again. So we had a very nice group with lots of catching up to do. Elaine brought in her placemats for some further instruction. I happened to have brought in some of my placemats to work on so was ready to help her. Sue kindly brought me a couple of potholders she had made from some fabric I gave her. They are very nice. Fran reported that Cathy M. has sprained an ankle. We haven't yet heard from Cathy Y. regarding her surgery. I reminded everyone of our upcoming quilt and craft show. I hope everyone is getting ready for that because it is coming up soon. I have to get busy on my table runner! Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-80964491647964567342015-12-23T10:26:00.001-05:002015-12-23T10:26:22.318-05:00Yesterday we were a small group--only 6 of us. We had a nice little chat though and Elaine made great progress on her Christmas placemats cutting out the backing and batting. I brought in some placemats I had made from scraps from my more recent projects. JoAnne brought in some giveaways given to her by a friend. They are in the closet until we have more people to offer it to.<br />
Last week was our Christmas lunch. We had a small group for it too. There were only 10 of us. Joyce came in later and demonstrated how to make a couple of Christmas ornaments. We have way too many members who are at home recuperating right now, but our little group does seem to be shrinking. Hopefully at our open house in February we can recruit some new members. At our holiday lunch we exchanged gifts. I got a very nice tea package from Fran. She made a sweet little teacup wall hanging which will go on my kitchen wall. I went home that night and had a nice cup of tea. Jo Anne and Rosalind got each others' gifts. A beautiful basket for Jo Anne and some hand made cards for Rosalind who told us yesterday she had already started using. That's one way to pass on some beauty and good wishes. Joyce played Santa Claus for us by dealing out the presents. She was late so didn't know who brought what. It was very nice. Ethel was also back with tales of her Hawaiian cruise which turned out to be a free cruise! She did have a tale to tell. <br />
Next week we will still be in the holiday period so we may have low turnout again. But I know Diane will finally have a day off work and is already looking forward to coming to Nimblefingers again. It will be nice to see her again. The time is coming to start making firm plans for our open house so get ready ladies... Put on your thinking caps and come up with suggestions to make this a fantastic open house.Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-78066890904259459802015-12-08T22:01:00.000-05:002015-12-08T22:01:29.086-05:0010 ladies attended today. I brought in 3 quilts to sew on binding. Fran was working on a wool candle mat. Jo-Anne was back with her turquoise scarf. Kathy O. was there with no walker, crutches, boot or any other annoying thing on her leg. She is recovering nicely. She was knitting socks. Elaine is making Christmas placemats for her mother. Rosalind is cro-hooking an afghan. Her friend Beverly came today too. She is also a knitter. Agnes had made another of her table runners, this one for Christmas. She's made 3 now. I still haven't made 1. I need to get busy!<br />
Next Tuesday is our Christmas party. We will have a potluck that will begin at 12:30. You can bring a gift (preferably homemade)/take a gift if you choose to participate. <br />
Today I brought in get well cards for Cathy Y. and Tina. Winnie is improving and hopes to be back next week. <br />
Joyce stopped by with lots of lace and Christmas fabric given to her by a neighbor. Most of it went quickly but I still have a bagful in the closet. We'll try again later and if no one wants what's left, I'll take it to the Delmar guild. <br />
I am trying to create listserve, a group email. I sent one out tonight so let me know if you get it. I've never done this before so I don't know if it will work.<br />
Take care and we'll see you next Tuesday!Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-32573634139065092552015-11-18T12:41:00.003-05:002015-11-18T12:41:51.378-05:00I know Tina is at home recuperating and probably getting irritated because I haven't been writing in the Nimblefingers blog. Sorry Tina. Yesterday Kathy O. came in and let us know how Tina was doing. She came in without her walker--she says she's just getting tired of hauling that thing around. Cathy Y. also stopped in for a short time to say hello, pass on a good book she had read and just to let us know that she is still around and thinking of us. She is going to be having surgery in early Dec. Hopefully she'll be back on her feet soon and be able to join us again. Cathy M. is at home and on oxygen . She doesn't like to use the portable oxygen so we may not see her for awhile. I think that's it for our various health worries. Winnie wasn't there yesterday and I'm not sure where she was so I hope she wasn't sick too. My husband has been sick since last Thursday and my back has been hurting for a week now so I'm plenty tired of not feeling well. We all need to recuperate I guess. We've been having such a beautiful fall that at least the weather is cooperating in keeping our moods up. <br />
I brought in 2 quilts I started in workshops last week with the Delmar quilt guild with teacher Lola Jenkins. She is a ghetto black woman whose quilts tell her story. And it was an interesting story--totally different from mine. She really gave us a peek into the black experience in the U.S. Her culture was very different from mine. I personally love learning about other cultures, other experiences so I thought it was great hearing all about it. She was well received and left feeling welcomed by the group. I enjoyed it and Fran agreed. One of the classes was on thread painting. We did "paint" with thread but also used colored pencils to color our piece. I have never done anything like this before so felt totally like a fish out of water but I persisted and my piece isn't terrible. It was fun making it. I still have a lot of threadwork to do so it's not quite done. The other class was on fabric collage. It was fun too. I completely lost track of time working on this piece. Here you use your scissors as you would a paintbrush combining some different elements to create a landscape. <br />
Ethel brought in an almost finished quilt top that she is making for a granddaughter. She wants to make doll quilts from the scraps of her quilts. She still needs to add a border to this quilt. She has yet another granddaughter for whom she has started a quilt. She showed me pieces of it. She had also finished cross-stitching a couple of holiday pieces. She does very nice work. <br />
Jo-Anne brought in a crocheted afghan that she wanted to start. No, she hasn't finished her pretty blue scarf, she just got tired of working on it. <br />
Sue Reilly is encouraging us to make adult bibs (she prefers calling them shirt protectors). Several people brought in some finished so she almost has the 20 she wants to collect. They will be given to Linda H. to give to the people who come to her senior lunches. <br />
Marguerite brought in a simple little Halloween ghost she had made. We decided that if you just changed the color of the ribbons that it could be a snowman and be used as a Christmas ornament too. <br />
So, to those of you who read the blog: take care.Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-9909260404380645372015-09-24T14:04:00.001-04:002015-09-24T14:04:48.201-04:00We had 15 ladies attend on Tuesday. It was a counting day. We counted the raffle tickets we sold over the weekend ($76 worth). We counted money and how much each person who participated in our quilt sale made ($892 total).We gave the Friends of the Library 10% of what we earned ($90). I think the sale went pretty well. We had very nice weather and the Friends of the Library were very helpful. Only 6 of us had items for sale but we really filled our little space. Unfortunately there was no way to hang quilts so that people could see the whole thing and we didn't have enough table space to really spread out. Nevertheless, we did okay. I sold the most. I new my ex-boss wanted one of my quilts. She bought it which gave me a big financial boost. Diane and Jo Anne went to the Bennington quilt festival on Saturday. They both came by on Sunday to tell us about the show and Jo Anne brought in her purchases on Tuesday to show us. She bought a really cute 12 days of Christmas cat style panel. Several people were back from their summer vacations. Returning were Agnes, Sandie, Carol and Tina. Agnes had news of Kathy O.--she's in a cast now having broken her foot/ankle. Poor Kathy! Marguerite brought in her finished strip quilt top. I had a quilted strip quilt for her to take so we could compare them. Marguerite made hers with smaller squares and narrower strips. She liked mine better, I liked hers better. The grass is always greener... Tina had made her challenge table runner while away for the summer. Several people have made theirs by now. I am not one of those people though. I still haven't started mine. Sandie and Rosalind were doing cross-stitch today. Marguerite was still working on her prayer shawls. Fran was making hexagons. Sue brought in some odd yarn and tried knitting it but was having trouble and quit. Jean is still working on dish towels. We talked about our sale this weekend. This is the first time we've done this so I hope it works out. We will be at the library Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Other announcements: we are having a Nimblefingers retreat day on Saturday, Sept. 26. 10-5 and the Quiltbug on Route 146 will give our group 10% of all purchases made by members if you just mention upon purchasing that you belong to Nimblefingers. Cathy M. came in. We were all very happy to see her again. She has been out all summer. Jo-Anne assured her that she was still working on the same scarf so Cathy hadn't missed anything. Pam came in with a t-shirt quilt to lay out and pin. Her friend had been in a lot of plays so the t-shirts were from those plays. She will be very happy with her quilt I think. Joyce also came in for awhile. I haven't seen her for awhile so I updated her on my eye troubles. Betty brought in some sinfully rich Paula Deen cookies. Needless to say, they were yummy. She also brought in her newspaper comic boxes to show. They were cute little gift boxes but looked a bit complicated to make. Fran was knitting a scarf from some particularly beautiful ribbon-type yarn. I was cutting circles our of paper for the demonstration I will be giving at the Village Quilter meeting on Thursday. Rosalund was working on her cross-stitch while Jean was making dishtowels. Shirley S. also stopped by to ask about our sale at the library booksale. She has some things she wants to bring in for that. It was a nice day, particularly nice to see Cathy up and about again.Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-26149764631277365202015-08-25T16:37:00.000-04:002015-08-25T16:37:42.220-04:0011 ladies attended today. Marguerite returned from visiting her brother in Canada. She said it was 90 degrees up there! Not what you expect in Canada. Fran and I came with no work to do so we looked at magazines and helped Diane price her items for the sale on the weekend of 9/18. Jo-Anne was knitting her pretty blue scarf; Ethel was making little hats for toddlers; Marguerite was cross-stitching; Diane making yo-yo's. As usual I don't know what the people at the end of the table were working on. Betty has been spending a lot of time with her family which tired her out. She was happy to get back to her quiet life. Towards the end of the afternoon Elaine and Caiden joined us. Elaine came regularly when she was pregnant with Caiden (13 years ago). She teaches at Skidmore so we only see her during school breaks. She always has tales to tell so it's nice to keep up with her. Today she told us about Caiden switching schools next year from BKW schools to the Tech Valley school. It sounds very interesting. It sounds like a good school for someone who may very well go on to studying science and/or technology. It's been a quiet summer and it's just about over. I will be eager to see the return of our campers from the north.<br />
<br />Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-44057075182811984152015-08-25T13:26:00.002-04:002015-08-25T13:26:19.525-04:00I didn't write last week--I was too worried about my upcoming cataract surgery. My worrying must have destined me to have problems because I surely did. The surgery went fine, but because I have dry eyes and all the drops they use made them drier, sometime after the surgery I blinked and ripped the skin right off my cornea. I spent 24 hours in pain with both eyes closed so completely blind. My husband was very good to lead me around the house and provide me with food and drink. But it was miserable. Friday morning I went in for my post-op appointment. She numbed my eyeball, cleaned it up and put in a contact lens bandage. Monday she took off the contact lens. I'll go in again next Monday (at 7:30 a.m.--I'm not a morning person). So I'm still waiting to see some improvement in my vision. Right now my left eye sees blurry and my depth perception is a little off. What a pain! Anyway, that's my story.<br />
Ethel came in with her finished (except for the binding which she was sewing down) quilt for her granddaughter Vivian Powers. I will put in the picture later. She also had pictures of Vivian's 3rd birthday party--a fairy party. We met Vivian briefly one day. She is a very cute little princess of a girl.<br />

They are quite extraordinary.<br />

She won a blue and a red ribbon on her quilts. She was also in charge of several other areas of the fair. Being an associate of the fairground she has a lot of duties. <br />
Jo-Anne missed last week having taken a bus trip to Cooperstown to eat lunch at a hotel on Glimmerglass lake. Apparently the lunch is fantastic (it made us all hungry just hearing about it) but the bus ride was discouraging. One of the belts came off of the bus engine and they were afraid they were going to have to sit by the side of the road waiting for a new bus but someone on the bus helped the driver put the belt back on so that they could continue their trip. Thank goodness!<br />

Lesa, the library artist, made a poster with our quilt as the background advertising our Nimblefingers sale on Sept. 18, 19, and 20. This is the first time we've tried selling our items so I am curious to see how it goes. If it's successful, maybe we could have a sale table at our open house in February.<br />
We have been having small groups this summer, only about 9 ladies attend. Recently it's been very hot and I don't know if that's what's keeping people away. Cathy M. has been sick; she's on oxygen and doesn't like to carry around the portable machine. We miss Tina and Kathy O., our campers. But because we had a small group this time it meant more of Agnes' delicious brownies for the rest of us!<br />

It was extremely hot out but thank goodness the library is air conditioned. I brought absolutely nothing to work on this week. Pat OR is nearly finished with her wool table runner. Fran brought in some place mats to work on the bindings. JoAnne's still plugging away on the turquoise scarf. Rosalund is making a scarf from a very pretty variegated yarn. Pat OR brought in a couple of projects she either wasn't going to start or wasn't going to finish. Winnie took both of them--one a cross-stitch kit and one an unfinished pin cushion. Marguerite is still working on prayer shawls with her magenta yarn. Sue R. brought in some of the toddler hats she's been making. They were adorable. We all oohed and aahed over them.Voorheesville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14757599629535409532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31374106.post-52457239711100267732015-07-28T12:58:00.005-04:002015-07-28T12:58:46.549-04:00<br />

These pictures were taken a few weeks ago by Debbie the Librarian. I was out sick at the time and Lila Smith from the Delmar Q.U.I.L.T. group stopped by. She brought the portrait quilt (of her husband) she had made in the Esterita Austin workshop and also some simple bags she had made. She showed everyone how to make the bags but no one has shown me yet. Debbie took some more pictures so I'll try to get them into this blog post as well. <br />

It was very hot and humid outdoors so we wondered if everyone was too hot to come to the library. Whatever...it's their loss. Agnes told me she got a call from Kathy O. who had bought a new Bernina, an embroidery machine, and was ultra excited. She's embroidered all of her t-shirts and now has started on Al's (though she promised him she wouldn't put any flowers on his t-shirts). When Kathy returns in the fall I'm sure she'll have a whole lot of show and tell. That will be something to look forward to for sure. Winnie was working on the mini-tin pin cushions. Sue and Betty were crocheting and cro-hooking away. Jo Anne was knitting away on her turquoise scarf and Marguerite was knitting her magenta scarf. I brought in a quilt to sandwich so several of the ladies helped me with that. I also brought in a wall hanging I had made from a kit I bought at the Somers quilt show. It is somewhat arty, though very simple. Ethel came in towards the end of the meeting with her granddaughter Vivianne and Vivianne's finished quilt top. It's purple and pink with embroidered cats, dogs, hearts and flowers. It looks very little girlish and Vivianne seems very proud of it.
